Tyrannies and helplessness

“Of all tyrannies, a tyranny exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive.
It may be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies.”
– C.S. Lewis
Hey, We got the robber barons and the omnipotent moral busybodies. How’d we get so lucky?
Stephen King on Iraq, Waterboarding, Etc. November, 28 2007 in an interview with Time
“Yeah. You know, I just filmed a segment for Nightline, about [the movie version of his
novella] The Mist, and one of the things I said to them was, you know, “You guys are just
covering — what do they call it — the scream of the peacock, and you’re missing the whole
fox hunt.” Like waterboarding [or] where all the money went that we poured into Iraq. It just seems to disappear.
And yet you get this coverage of who’s gonna get custody of Britney’s
kids? Whether or not Lindsay drank at her twenty-first birthday party, and all this other shit.
You know, this morning, the two big stories on CNN are Kanye West’s mother, who died,
apparently, after having some plastic surgery. The other big thing that’s going on is whether or
not this cop [Drew Peterson] killed his… wife. (Yea, I know this is a little dated, but I missed the story earlier)
And meanwhile, you’ve got Pakistan in the midst of a real crisis, where these people have nuclear weapons that we helped them develop. You’ve got a guy in charge, who’s basically declared himself the military strongman and is being supported by the Bush administration, whose raison d’entre for going into Iraq was to spread democracy in the world.” ..end.
Where do you suppose all those Billion’s of dollars went ?? Is the reason this war in Viet…er…Iraq is stretching out so long….to maximize profits to Halliburton, Blackwater, and all the rest of the outsourced gang. We have more private enterprise than soldiers in Iraq.
A LOT of civilian enterprise is getting very rich trading on this war and the continued deaths of our young men.
And a lot of our own personal freedoms are going down the tubes. Where is this going to end?
And does it really make sense to give Billions of $$$$’s and support to a Pakistani military dictator for their limited help and the right to cross their airspace to bomb another military dictatorship? Isn’t this “robbing Peter to pay Paul?” Isn’t this hypocritical?
Well, you do what’s necessary when Billions or maybe Trillions of bucks are at stake. Already half a Trillion.
And what’s up with our press (I really know the answer to this. It’s rhetorical)? Network news should tell about the things that affect us a people, not what is going on with spoiled a__holes in Hollywood.
There needs to be major revamping of priority’s maybe.
Or maybe it’s what our Honorable Leaders want….much distraction.
