The Civilized God

Below, I present for your reading pleasure the “inerrant words of God” as copied from the King James Bible…the most inerrant book on the earth. :0

This is the Word of God
Mark 16:17-18 (King James Version)
“17And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; 18They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.”
If you’re a believer, you can fondle rattlesnakes and drink poison

Thus saith the Lord
Exodus 21:20-21 (King James Version)
“20And if a man smite his servant, or his maid, with a rod, and he die under his hand; he shall be surely punished. 21Notwithstanding, if he continue a day or two, he shall not be punished: for he is his money.”
You may beat them, just don’t kill them.”

Thus saith the Lord God of Israel
Exodus 32:27-28 (King James Version)
“27And he said unto them, Thus saith the LORD God of Israel, Put every man his sword by his side, and go in and out from gate to gate throughout the camp, and slay every man his brother, and every man his companion, and every man his neighbor. 28And the children of Levi did according to the word of Moses: and there fell of the people that day about three thousand men.”

The Word of God
Leviticus 26:22 (King James Version)
“22 I will also send wild beasts among you, which shall rob you of your children, and destroy your cattle, and make you few in number; and your high ways shall be desolate.”

Also the Word of God
Leviticus 26:29 (King James Version)
” 29And ye shall eat the flesh of your sons and the flesh of your daughters shall ye eat.”

The Lord Harkened
Numbers 21:3 (King James Version)
“3And the LORD hearkened to the voice of Israel, and delivered up the Canaanites; and they utterly destroyed them and their cities: and he called the name of the place Hormah.”
Sounds like genocide to me.

A plague from the Lord
Numbers 25:9 (King James Version)
“9And those that died in the plague were twenty and four thousand.”

Saith the Lord
Numbers 31:17-18, 35 (King James Version)
“17Now therefore kill every male among the little ones, and kill every woman that hath known man by lying with him. 18But all the women children, that have not known a man by lying with him, keep alive for yourselves.
35And thirty and two thousand persons in all, of women that had not known man by lying with him.”
Yummm…young virgins.

And the Lord our God delivered
Deuteronomy 2:33-34 (King James Version)
“33And the LORD our God delivered him before us; and we smote him, and his sons, and all his people. 34 And we took all his cities at that time, and utterly destroyed the men, and the women, and the little ones, of every city, we left none to remain:” Genocide again?

God delivers the Og’s
Deuteronomy 3:6 (King James Version)
6And we utterly destroyed them, as we did unto Sihon king of Heshbon, utterly destroying the men, women, and children, of every city.”

The Lord thy God: Show no mercy
Deuteronomy 7:2 (King James Version)
2And when the LORD thy God shall deliver them before thee; thou shalt smite them, and utterly destroy them; thou shalt make no covenant with them, nor shew mercy unto them:”

The Lord saith: Nothing left that breaths
Deuteronomy 20:16 (King James Version)
“6 But of the cities of these people, which the LORD thy God doth give thee for an inheritance, thou shalt save alive nothing that breatheth:”
Is it just me, or does this sound like a sad excuse for killing people to take their land? The Lord made me do it.

The spoils of war. Saith the Lord
Deuteronomy 21:10-13 (King James Version)
“10When thou goest forth to war against thine enemies, and the LORD thy God hath delivered them into thine hands, and thou hast taken them captive, 11And seest among the captives a beautiful woman, and hast a desire unto her, that thou wouldest have her to thy wife; 12Then thou shalt bring her home to thine house, and she shall shave her head, and pare her nails; 13And she shall put the raiment of her captivity from off her, and shall remain in thine house, and bewail her father and her mother a full month: and after that thou shalt go in unto her, and be her husband, and she shall be thy wife.” This is called rape by civilized peoples.

With the Lords approval
Joshua 6:21-27 (King James Version)
21And they utterly destroyed all that was in the city, both man and woman, young and old, and ox, and sheep, and ass, with the edge of the sword.”

Also with the Lords approval
Joshua 8:23-25 (King James Version)
23And the king of Ai they took alive, and brought him to Joshua.  24And it came to pass, when Israel had made an end of slaying all the inhabitants of Ai in the field, in the wilderness wherein they chased them, and when they were all fallen on the edge of the sword, until they were consumed, that all the Israelites returned unto Ai, and smote it with the edge of the sword.
25And so it was, that all that fell that day, both of men and women, were twelve thousand, even all the men of Ai.

With the Lords approval
Joshua 10:40 (King James Version)
“40 So Joshua smote all the country of the hills, and of the south, and of the vale, and of the springs, and all their kings: he left none remaining, but utterly destroyed all that breathed, as the LORD God of Israel commanded.”
There’s that Genocide thing again.

This has nothing to do with this post, but FYI…

I’ve named you on my Certified Honest Blogger post today. Don’t…I repeat, do NOT…feel obliged to go through with the process yourself. Just wanted you to know I’ve given you some respect after getting some myself.

I first want to thank you for your blog. I have been hooked on it for two days now, I find it fascinating. I too have numerous problems with religion yet I am so intrigued by it. I spend all my free time researching the ideologies of the bible and what historians, geologist, etc. say about it. I would love to pick your brain about your sources. The internet is great but it can be hard to know what sources are credible and which are not.
Ok I’m actually going to comment on this thread. I’ve researched the theories on the bible and Christianity for about a year or so now but only recently started reading the book itself and I have to say that I am genuinely shocked (by passages such as these). I live in Utah so not only am I surrounded by a mass amount of Christians but LDS as well and all I have ever grown up hearing is how loving, forgiving, and caring God is (P.S. not from my family however they are atheist). I was hoping to feel at least a ping of something that my intellect would not previously allow me to feel about the Christian teachings but the more I read the more I realize that I will not allow my children to be subject to this information. Who in this hell on Earth would allow their brains to believe in a book (aside from the fact that a good deal of information is inaccurate) that encourages prejudice, racism, rape, murder, and jealousy just to name a few? Do they not preach that those are sins? On innocent individuals no less! Oh if it’s in the name of God its ok? If there is a God he gave us a highly functioning brain for a reason, WE NEED TO USE IT. . do these people that believe this garbage use none of theirs? I would venture to say that they put their blinders on because they have had someone tell them (or scare them with fiery pits of hell) what to do, what to believe and how to feel for so long that if it were proven untrue they’d have nothing left to believe in. Man that felt good to rant! Thank you, I’m sure you will hear from me again;)

Hi Crystal Medina, Thank you for taking the time to write.
    Neat name…Crystal.

Thank you for your kind words.

Indeed the subject is fascinating, and it has helped me keep an active exploring mind. I studied history in college and it has remained a favorite subject of mine, but for years I skirted around the subject of religion and for the most part thought of it as booooring. Then at one point a few years ago someone was talking to me about Noah’s Flood, and I thought, “This is a really stupid story.” So I started to explore the myth on the internet…A research tool that I didn’t have before, and is now making it so easy to check out religious ‘un-truths’ that I’m sure the churches are somewhat troubled about it.

As for your wondering about finding credible sources on the net, I just follow one rule: always get a second (or third-or fourth) opinion. Most colleges now have lots and lots of research data on the web that is freely available.

Wikipedia, although some people look down on, is a jewel of a research tool, and is expanding at a phenomenal rate. It has a very big advantage over dead tree encyclopedias…it is infinitely expandable and can grow day by day as knowledge grows…just check other sources as backup, although I have found it very accurate. I also have the 2008 DVD edition of the Encyclopedia Britannica on my laptop.

Below are maybe 1/100th of the search terms I have used to gain knowledge about the subjects I explore.

Abraham, Adam and Eve, African civilization(s), age of earth, Akkadians, ancient Briton, ancient Egypt, ancient China, ancient Europe, ancient India, ancient Iran, ancient languages, ancient native Americans, archaeological dating, Assyria, Babylon, biblical tribes, biology, bronze age, carbon dating, cave paintings, Chaldea or Chaldeans, Christian myth, city of Dan, city of Laish, Clovis points, cuneiform writing, dating methods, Dendrocronology, DNA, El, Elohim, Euphrates river, flood myths, flood stories, genetics, geology, Gilgamesh, God, Hammurabi, Hebrews, Hebron, henges, hieroglyphs, human history, human pre-history, Indus valley civilization, iron age, Jehovah, Jericho, Jesus, Jewish myths, life sciences, Lot, Mesopotamia, Midrash, myths, Neanderthal, Noah’s flood, oil geology, Paleontology, Permian, pyramids, RNA, Rosetta stone, scripture, sea people, Solutrian, steles, Stonehenge, stratigraphy, Sumerians, Tigris river, Torah, Ur of the Chaldeans, Yahweh.

I have talked to a few LDS members thru this blog, and have found that if they are believers they will not talk about any of the sciences *not* backing up some of their claims. They get all spaced out and start talking gibberish…well actually most ‘Christians’ do that. If faced with scientific fact that contradicts their ‘faith’ they either ignore the fact or start babbling on about Jesus saving my soul or some such nonsense.

The blogs are a great place to rant and kind of lay-out and analyze your thoughts. Feedback from readers is very important…sometimes you get information that you had never thought about, or someone challenges what you are ‘saying’ and it leads your thinking into new areas and expands your mind. I look at my blog as a writing assignment, like–‘today (or this week) I’m going to read up and write about Paul.’ Or ‘the time discrepancy between Abraham and his fathers death.’ Often researching one subject will bring forth new areas to write about.

I look forward to ‘talking’ with you and if there’s anything I can do to help, or I can point you to a place that can maybe answer your questions…let me know.

I have been trying to say that for millennia but humans are a perverse lot. They insist on blaming me for everything.

PS one day you and I must discuss this flood thing. It was far removed in time and space from the Mesopotamian origins claimed in my supposed word. But you want a flood? I’ll give you a FLOOD!
