Man Made Genetics

We’re getting closer and closer folks.

Scientists in the US have succeeded in developing the first synthetic living cell.
The researchers constructed a bacterium’s “genetic software” and transplanted it into a host cell. The resulting microbe then looked and behaved like the species “dictated” by the synthetic DNA.
The advance, published in Science, has been hailed as a scientific landmark, but critics say there are dangers posed by synthetic organisms.  Full story at BBC

P.Z. Myers over at Pharyngula has the scientific explanation of whats going on.

Hello word of Me. 🙂 I’m also interested in science, and put together an article on this. If you’re interested, I’d love to hear what you thought, here’s the link:

Hello Jason Brophy, thank you for writing.

    You write:
“Yet the media is titling their articles “Scientists create artificial life.” But what if they had created a fully synthetic living cell? Would that mean a living cell could arise from non-living matter without an intelligent designer like God? The answer is a resounding no.”

I agree with you about the journalists and media; they always go for the hoopla and overstatement. Sometimes it’s hard to separate the wheat from the chaff. I remember a few months ago some little scroungy bones were presented as the “missing link”…waaay wrong. Besides, the missing link(s) had already been identified long ago.

Some of those Christian “Scientists” need to start working on that “Intelligent Design” theory…make something out of it…do some tests, make some hypothesis and do testable work. So far it’s just a concept that AiG and other creationist fundagelicals talk about…all hot air, no substance. 🙂

Answers in Genesis is spouting the same old stuff they always have. They just can’t seem to get over that so much of the Genesis (an therefore much of the dogma of the church) chapter has been disproven. 🙂
