Religion vs Death

Anyone who still thinks religion has been a benign force in this world need to read the compilation that James Haught made in a 1990 edition of the Skeptical Review.  Below is a segment to whet your appetite:

“– The Thirty Years’ War produced the largest religious death toll of all time. It began in 1618 when Protestant leaders threw two Catholic emissaries out of a Prague window into a dung heap. War flared between Catholic and Protestant princedoms, drawing in supportive religious armies from Germany, Spain, England, Holland, Denmark, Sweden, France and Italy. Sweden’s Protestant soldiers sang Martin Luther’s “Ein ‘Feste Burg” in battle. Three decades of combat turned central Europe into a wasteland of misery. One estimate states that Germany’s population dropped from 18 million to 4 million. In the end nothing was settled, and too few people remained to rebuild cities, plant fields, or conduct education.”

I’ve had people tell me that it is men doing these dastardly deeds and not God or the religion.  I have to disagree with this interpretation.  There are passages in the Bible and Koran that are constantly interpreted / misinterpreted and used as an excuse to maim and kill those who believe differently.  The Catholics and Protestants still barely talk to each other, and the Muslims still kill anybody that disagrees with them.  The Muslims kill the Hindus and the Hindus kill the Muslims

Muslims Kill Even More Christians

Nigeria, Africa will probably end up being a Muslim controlled country before long.  They have a group of Muslims who call themselves Boko Haram, and they’re out to kill any and all opposition to their wants…they started with the Christians.

 “Nigeria has been hit by a fresh wave of violence apparently targeting the country’s Christian communities. At least 17 people were killed in Mubi in Adamawa state as gunmen opened fire in a town hall where members of the Christian Igbo group were meeting.

There were also reports of a deadly attack in Adamawa’s capital, Yola.”  BBC Africa Here

I guess they figure if they get rid of the Christians there won’t be anyone left to stop their power grab.  Notice because they are Muslim’s they just kill instead of trying a democratic solutions…trying to win the hearts and minds maybe…instead of terror.

“Gunmen who are, from all indications, members of Boko Haram came in large numbers and have encircled police headquarters. They chanted ‘Allahu Akbar’ [God is Great] and fired indiscriminately,” a resident told AFP.

Boko Haram, whose name means ‘Western education is forbidden’, is fighting to overthrow the government and create an Islamic state.”

You know if atheism ruled there wouldn’t be any of this crap going on….:-)

I see the “Religion of Peace”…Islam, has given a gift of murder and mayhem to Nigerian Christians this year.

Republicans Vote Against American Jobs

The Republicans are just out to totally screw over the middle class in America.  They have arguably completely aligned themselves with the large corporations and the billionaires and against the common man, and plot to bring all of America under the thumb of the ruling elite.

“The Republicans didn’t just vote against “American jobs,” they literally filibustered them. While the GOP presidential candidates debated their plans to further screw the American economy Tuesday night, every single Republican senator approved the filibuster and overwhelmingly blocked The American Jobs Act from even coming to a vote on the floor of the U.S. Senate.”

It seems they are doing all they can to destroy our democracy and our country.  They have been against everything the president has proposed and the conservative radio personalities constantly berate and belittle him, and spew so much hatred that I am embarrassed for my country. I don’t think this is something they would try on a white man.  They are so totally evil and malevolent.

“Unemployment is stuck at 9.1 percent. Corporations are sitting on $2 trillion in cash, in fact, the largest pile of liquid assets since 1959, and they aren’t spending that money on anything, much less new jobs since they’ve convinced their existing employees to do twice the work for lower pay and dwindling benefits. Simultaneously, corporate profits are at an all-time high, corporate taxes are at an all-time low and middle class wages have been stagnant for decades. Used to be in our country that the Republicans and Democrats were civil to each other and America was passably livable no matter which party was in power.  Sure there were differences and sometimes very big disagreements, but now, to listen to the Republicans if we don’t bow down and cater to what they want our country is doomed.  They insist that we keep taxes lower for billionaires and humongous corporations then for middle class, we need to lower support for unessential things like…Oh I don’t know, like Social Security, Medicare (most seniors can’t afford the cost of drugs anymore), Schools and Teacher salaries and support for WIC (women and infant children)…and you know there are some REAL poor people out there, now that so many people are out of jobs, who could use a little help.

Contrary to what the Tea-Party/Republicans believe, not everyone is capable of pulling down $100,000 a year and have big health insurance coverage and retirement benefits.  It’s a nice dream, but sadly we don’t all qualify.  There are many many working poor in this country and it’s only getting worse…especially if we have to follow republican policies and practices.

“At 1:30 this morning hundreds of police in full riot gear brutally attacked Occupy Boston, which had peacefully gathered on the Rose Kennedy Greenway. The Boston Police Department made no distinction between protesters, medics, or legal observers, arresting legal observer Urszula Masny-Latos, who serves as the Executive Director for the Massachusetts branch of the National Lawyers Guild, as well as four medics attempting to care for the injured.”

Notice they made no distinction between anybody there in the area.  This is no doubt so that the word will get out that if you are there in any capacity you stand a good chance of getting your head bashed in…a favorite tactic of the fascist police squads.  You want to protest (which is a legal right by the way), we’ll beat you up and there’s nothing you can do about it

This is a very good cause and the protesters are behaving themselves, as are the spectators, the Medics and legal observers.  The people gathering have lost jobs or pensions or homes and their ability to understand what’s being done to them by the rich”

Members of Veterans for Peace carrying American flags were pushed to the ground and their flags trampled as the police hauled them away.”

The fascist police are even attacking veterans…those people who have fought for our freedoms and sacrificed so much for America…shame on them and shame on the Boston police and shame on the city government who allowed such a terrible and atrocious thing to happen to their own citizens.

“Following the raid, Boston Police Commissioner Ed Davis made no mention of veterans, organized labor, students, or families, nor did he issue an apology for his department’s aggressive tactics. Since the beginning of its occupation, Occupy Boston has worked tirelessly and successfully to maintain a positive working relationship with city officials. Today’s reprehensible attack by the Boston Police Department against a movement that enjoys the broad support of the American people represents a sad and disturbing shift away from dialogue and towards violent repression.”

They are attempting to squash all our freedoms to protest and to let the government know that WE are unhappy with how predatory corporation (Banks, Wall St. Robber Barons) and government policies are screwing citizens of America.

An Occupy Boston spokesperson says:
“Despite the city’s attempt to silence us, Occupy Boston remains, and bears no ill-will towards the men and women of the Boston Police Department who were simply following orders. We hope that someday the peaceful pursuit of economic justice will not provoke the beating of elderly veterans and the arrest of medics and legal observers. We encourage everyone who continues to feel as strongly as we do about limiting the influence of Wall Street on our democracy to join us tomorrow, and in the future, down in Dewey Square.”

Yeah, well, the Nazi’s used that excuse that they were just following orders when they were terrorizing and killing unarmed and peaceful people didn’t they?
All American government entities, from your local small town police dept. or sheriff to the Department of Defense (DoD) are training their people to follow orders even when it means attacking/killing their neighbors or fellow citizens.  Unlike some government troops in Middle Eastern countries who would not fire on their own citizens, America’s police and military, when ordered, WILL.

So Tea-Party members/Republicans are cheering Ron Paul and his seemingly deep disregard for Americans who are sick and cannot afford Health Insurance.  I suppose they think that the more poor people that die–the better off they will be.

CNN’s Wolf Blitzer asks Rep. Ron Paul whether medical care should be provided to a hypothetical, uninsured 30-year-old man who lapsed into a coma, to which Paul responded, “That’s what freedom is all about, taking your own risks.”  Blitzer then asked, “Are you saying that society should just let him die?” audience members erupted into loud cheers of “Yeah!” and laughter.

Coincidentally Tuesday morning the US Census Bureau released data showing the number of uninsured Americans this year has risen by another 900,000 to 49.9 million people (that’s a 13.3 million person rise since 2000). The Census Bureau also reported a huge leap in the poverty rate, more than 46 million Americans, about one in six) lived below the poverty line. Maybe one reason so many people are without health coverage is that health insurance premiums have doubled in nine years (got to pay all those multi-multi-million dollar salaries to the company CEO’s).

According to a study done this year by Harvard Medical School and Cambridge Health Alliance published by the American Journal of Public Health. Nearly 45,000 deaths in the U.S. every year are associated with lack of health insurance.

Also the United States has both the highest overall poverty rate and the highest childhood poverty rate of any major industrialized country on earth, according to the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development.
While 21.6 percent of American children live in poverty,
In Denmark the rate is 3.7 percent
In Finland the rate is 5.3 percent
In Iceland the rate is 6.7 percent
In Germany the rate is 8.3 percent
In France the rate is 9.3 percent
We are uncomfortably close to 3^rd. world Mexico who has 25.8% of its children living in poverty.

All of these bad numbers in the US are arguably caused by our government’s dumb ass practices and policies. We spend TRILLIONS** of dollars on illegal and unnecessary wars, and come to find out that many-many BILLIONS of those dollars are just flat missing and unaccounted for. Meanwhile we are borrowing money from China to pay interest. We continually suck money out of programs for educating our young, from repairing our infrastructure and paving our roads…and yes, for programs that help our poor and indigent.

Government’s main business is to look after the welfare of its citizens, and to provide common services that we as individuals cannot do.  That’s why we CITIZENS band together and make governments…to further the interest of the common folk, for the common good. It is not to enable crooked politicians to consistently (and without consequences) raid the treasury to pay for billionaires’ and monster companies missteps, foreign wars, foreign aid, pork projects, an American Gestapo and unnecessary bridges to nowhere.

We are quickly building a very BIG class of dis-enfranchised citizenry, people who are losing their houses, their income, their health benefits, their ability to care for their family, their dignity, and their patience with a government that does not care and supports only corporations and billionaires.

Don’t fool yourself, these corporations and billionaires don’t care in the least about us, the people…all they care about is getting the peoples labor for the lowest possible wage and no benefits. They are truly and consciously trying to eliminate the American middle class. They send all jobs they possibly can to low labor cost countries and end up ultimately devaluing the citizenry in those countries.  Capitalism is great and all, but as with all things taken to the maximum extreme…crippling.

America cannot stand much more of the evil and unconscionable manipulation and thievery that we are being subjected to by our own government. We need to start making them accountable for their wickedness and VERY badly mistaken priorities.

**It has also been reported in the last two decades that the Department of Defense and the Bureau of Indian Affairs have both “LOST” a TRILLION dollars…they both have no idea in hell where the money went.  Just think, that’s Two Thousand Billion Bucks…no one got in trouble, no one was ever held accountable.  You see, when the government does it…it’s not a crime.  Is that Democracy or is that tyranny?

“This week’s depraved anachronism comes from a Muslim woman—Salwa al-Mutairi, a political activist and former parliamentary candidate for Kuwait’s government, no less: She, too, seeks to “revive the institution of sex-slavery.”

“Muslim men who fear being seduced or tempted into immoral behavior by the beauty of their female servants, or even of those servants “casting spells” on them, would be better to purchase women from an “enslaved maid” agency for sexual purposes. She [Mutairi] suggested that special offices could be set up to provide concubines in the same way as domestic staff recruitment agencies currently provide housemaids. “We want our youth to be protected from adultery,” said al-Mutairi, suggesting that these maids could be brought as prisoners of war in war-stricken nations like Chechnya to be sold on later to devout merchants.”

Just a thought for those who read the full story.  If we get into a full-fledged war with the Muslim countries and they take prisoners somewhere, any females in that group of prisoners can legally (by their religious laws) be made a sex slave for Muslim men/soldiers.  How fun that must be…..  😦

Oh Yeah, I’m sure God/Allah is just smiling down from heaven/wherever and using His/Her/Its various and sundry powers to allow this idea to come to “consummation”  🙂

Does this not scream out to you that Islam is totally full of SH*T…the Muslim people are batspit crazy and their pitiful governments are useless…the whole bunch of them are a drain on the worlds resources, they just can’t come out of the Dark Ages and realize that ALL humans have the right to be free of ASSHAT religious crap.
