God and Creation…the early years

Science is nothing more than organized common sense.  Kenneth R. Miller

So God is just having a normal day telling all the Angels and Satan and Archangels, Michael and Gabriel what to do, and suddenly thinks, “I’m going to make a Universe and some planets and maybe some live things to play around with.”

So he gets in his creation mode and conjures up (Ex-Nihilo) gasses, rocks, metals, water, fire, space, time, and any other thing that goes into making up this Universe we happen to live in.  He probably lets it cook for a few billion years and things start to happen as the Universe makes stars and planets and blows up and re-condenses and expands and contracts and generally does it thing, as it has for over 14 billion years now.

Now God apparently decides to make our world personally and he makes the firmament about 4.5 billion years ago, and he hovers to and fro over the waters and divides the land from the water and makes light and then the sun and moon and stars in the sky and animals and grasses and finally after about 4.499999 billion years or so he makes poor ol’ Adam, then pulls a rib from him to make Eve. Now all the while he is doing this creating and starting things in motion, he’s thinking to himself. “How can I make this creating stuff more interesting?”

After thinking for awhile he calls Satan and Michael over and whispers into their ears for about an hour.  Every now and then either Satan or Michael pull back and look at God like he’s crazy, but they go back to the huddle and whisper some more. The other Angels just stand around wondering what’s up with the bosses and why they’re whispering back and forth.

Now we cut to earth, and Adam and Eve, in this perfect garden that God has set up for them. They’re running around naked and all, pruning and watering the garden for a few (8?) years. Then out of nowhere comes Satan and does the apple/fruit of some kind…thing with eve, and then slithers out of sight before God comes.

We all know what happens next…God kicks them out of the garden, gives them pain, etc., etc. Just remember that it wasn’t till a few (4 or so) thousand years later that Paul decided they were part of his theology.

Now they are kicked out of their home with nothing but the God provided skins of some animals on their backs. They have nothing…they finally find a cave to live in and after some further wrangling with God and the Devil they start their family. The family thing didn’t turn out so well…they birthed and raised the first killer and they were left alone, until at the age of 130, they had another son, and then more sons and daughters.  Some say as many as 35 or more children…I really feel sympathy for Eve on this.

Now all this was supposed to have happened 6000 years ago.  God makes these hapless souls and promptly kicks them out of safety and into a world where they were clueless. The world was teeming with deadly diseases, poisonous plants, and killer animals.  They didn’t know a thing about making shelters, finding safe water, finding or making food, when to plant, what to plant, how to plant, how to kill and skin animals for clothing and shelter, how to make the necessary tools an ancient human would need for survival.

They had nothing in the way of knowledge about the ways of natures, how to make things they needed to raise up from the level of animals, how to live safely and comfortably and plan for a future they could not comprehend. They had no medicines, no knowledge of the possibility of medicine and how to treat any of the human ailments that we are all prone to. All they knew was the ‘Garden’ and the care of God.

Somehow they managed to survive and give birth to a race of people that numbered in the 10’s of millions about 1500 to 1600 years later ???

Then the Bible says that God gets really mad at these humans he had created, so he decides to kill them all…well, except for Noah and his family.  God reasons that this will rid the world forever of all these people that dis-respect Him. So somewhere around 2300 or 2400 BCE he floods the world and kills millions and millions of people, but He saves Noah and his sons and all the wives, and then he remakes the whole world to make it look like there was never a flood…just to confuse us later.

A couple hundred years after the flood was over the world was once again covered with humanity…millions and millions of people were spread everywhere on the face of the earth.  God looks down at Babylon and sees the people are now building a city and making really really tall buildings.  For some reason this kinda’ pisses God off, so he lowers himself from the sky, and with magic, he makes them stop speaking Akkadian and start speaking Hebrew, German, Chinese, Ojibwa, Spanish, English, French, Japanese, Korean, Canadian, Egyptian, and Esperanto.

This is when He really starts to mess with modern people’s minds…you see Babylon had already been built, and the towers were there, before He caused the ‘Flood.’  And of course the people then living in those faraway places (Spain, China, Japan, Canada, America, etc., etc.) were speaking their own early versions of their countries language…before the ‘Flood’ even.

So somewhere God kind of messed up when He plotted, and passed on to Moses, this great adventure us humans are part of…He hasn’t keep the lines of evidence in proper order, but possibly this is part of the plot…keep us on our toes, so to speak.

I can’t seem to get out of Genesis.  There are just so many things wrong with that story

End Times, Armageddon, Second Coming. etc.

Got to thinking about the ‘End Times’ today (this being Sunday and all) and was wandering how close we were to the fabled ‘Battle of Armageddon.’ all the Christians keep talking about and wishing for. Seems there are still a few items from Biblical prophecy that need to happen before the actual ‘End Times’ are upon us.

“Megiddo was a site of great importance in the ancient world, as it guarded the western branch of a narrow pass and an ancient trade route which connected the lands of Egypt and Assyria. Because of its strategic location at the crossroads of several major routes, Megiddo and its environs have witnessed several major battles throughout history. The site was inhabited from 7000 BC to 500 BC.” From Wikipedia, go: HERE

This little fact about Megiddo’s being occupied 3000 years ( Jericho is even older) before God supposedly created Adam & Eve, makes one wonder, and maybe think that the writers of the Bible were just making up stuff.

“After the destruction of the Beast at the Second Coming of Jesus, the promised Kingdom is set up, in which Jesus and the Saints will rule for a thousand years. Satan is then loosed **”for a season” and goes out to deceive the nations, specifically, Gog and Magog. The army mentioned attacks the Saints in the New Jerusalem, they are defeated by a judgment of fire coming down from Heaven, and then comes the Great White Throne judgment, which includes all of those through the ages and these are cast into the Lake of Fire, which event is also known as the “second death” or Hell.” See Wikipedia HERE

Premillennialism is a doctrine very popular among Evangelical Fundamentalist Protestants in North America. Other premillennial groups include Jehovah’s Witnesses, and Seventh Day Adventists. Premillennialists believe the Second Coming of Christ will be the start of the ‘Millennium’ (the 1000 year period when Jesus (God for you Trinitarians) rules the world). Before this period will come a time of destruction, war and disaster on earth, called the ‘Tribulation’, which will be ended by God defeating evil (Those pesky Russkies maybe, or politicians?) at the battle of Armageddon.

During the ‘Tribulation’ the Antichrist (Satan’s emissary…probably a politician) will torture humanity, and God will go to war against him. The tribulation will end in seven years when God defeats the Antichrist and we will enter the ‘Millennium. One thing to wonder about…why would a omnipotent God take seven years to defeat evil? Another thing that is troubling to me is that some Christians think they will be caught up in a ‘Rapture’ and miss all the Tribulation. Just like the Trinity, the Rapture doesn’t seem to be mentioned in the Bible…and some Christians build a whole church/sect on these things.

Hard core Premillennialists also don’t see much point in Christians trying to improve the world, since God is about to destroy much of it…and then remake it…again…think Noah’s Flood. I could kinda’ see their point here, but since all this is just very weird and wishful thinking, and old myth’s, they really aren’t very good world citizens…and kind of downers to be around socially.

**Whats up with letting Satan loose again…does God have no mercy?

********************

Many fundamentalist Christians believe that the building of the Third Temple is one of the prerequisites for the second coming of Christ. Some Christian fundamentalists in the United States support arms sales and military aid to Israel in the belief that these actions will help Israel rebuild its Temple and thus bring about the End Times. Critics say the actions of fundamentalist Christians in Israel and Palestine, which includes providing material support for Jewish settlers in what was formerly Palestinian lands, is building dangerous tension in the area. However the Temple Mount is now controlled by Muslim’s, and is considered its most sacred (Dome of the Rock) site, so its unlikely that the Jews will attempt to build a new Temple there for a very long time…if ever.

Well, I think we can count out the fulfilling of this Temple3 prophecy for the immediate future. I don’t think the Muslim’s will give up the site and Israel so far looks like they don’t want to start WWIII.

All this sounds pretty scary, but since there is already lots of doubt about the stories I don’t think I’m going to worry about these Biblical myths very much. And people openly and loudly wishing for the end of the world need to go suck eggs. 🙂

Actually the Battle of Armageddon was fought in 1918, British Christianity…against the Ottoman Empire. We won.

God Never Was

God would have had to either make the Ark by magic or help Noah make it by means of magic because there were no tools or materials available that were sophisticated enough, at the time, to make a seaworthy wooden structure that big.

*******************

An Englishman named William Whiston1 wrote a book in 1696 (A New Theory of the Earth), wherein he calculated that as many as 500 million humans may have been born in the antediluvian period, based on early assumptions about lifespan and fertility rates. Now the Flood supposedly happened 10 generations from the creation of Adam and Eve. Ten generations of people that lived on average 600 to 700 years is a lot of time. However, if you believe Ussher and most of the old Christian apologists, the ‘Flood’ happened around 1600 to 1700 years after creation. So I guess the early humans waited 165+- years to have sex for the first time. His figures are probably wrong.

Modern scientists have estimated that around 2000 to 3000 BCE the earth had a population of anywhere from 5 to 50 million souls.2 Some scientists have postulated that the earth has been home to slightly over 100 billion3 humans in its long (4.5 billion years) history. Now this figure takes into account that modern humans have been walking the earth for well over 50,000 years, and the modern human population…50,000 years ago…was 2 million souls.

All the population data I have seen from righteous sources does not show a sharp decline to a low of 8 people (and believe me…that would show) in 2400 to 2300 BCE. All the worlds early historical records, that were being written at the time, do not show that all societies were totally wiped out, a catastrophe that would have taken thousands of years to overcome and come back to previous standards. None of the archaeological evidence shows this happening in our historical past, and the Flood times, if you believe religious materials, is in historical times.

Besides all the hundreds of other scientific proofs about the Flood’s non-historicity, the simple excavations and recording of archaeologists for the last 150 years or so has conclusively proven that no world-wide flood ever happened. The disruption would leave tremendous amounts of evidence and would disrupt our societies much more than they have ever been. Eight people is not a viable population that could have survived, and the DNA evidence rules it out…also rules out a 6000 year old Adam and Eve by the way.

Now I have had a Christian person tell me that the Genesis tales HAVE to be true because Jesus mentions Genesis, which means that he knew about the ‘Flood’ and therefore knew our history of Creation, Flood, Tower of Babel, etc., and of course the Trinitarians say that Jesus Was God, so he knew it ALL. So that seems to mean, at least to me, that if one disproves the Flood and other Genesis trivia…they have disproven God (and the divinity of Jesus). Of course there are hundreds of other things that disproves God…but this one above kind of seals it for me.

The Internet and Religion

One man’s theology is another man’s belly laugh. -Robert A. Heinlein

I was thinking today (something I studiously try to avoid), and thought back to the mid 90’s when I would occasionally argue with some Christians about God, the Bible, and religion in general.

It was tough at that time, because although I knew what the Christians were pushing was phony and tremendously wrong, I had no ammunition, no information about the depths of the Christian deceit.  All my research on religious matters was tough as I was also trying to make a living and support a pretty big family.  Because of what the subject matter was about, I pretty much did it sporadically, as I didn’t want to cause any commotion at home.

All of that started to change in late 1996 or early1997 when we got Internet access, and I started to find so much relevant information online.  Argument I had never even thought about, information to give support to my position on the silliness of Noah’s flood and the Tower of Babel, and the age of the earth, Adam and Eve, and the beginnings of the Christian faith.  All was suddenly clear…these feelings I had about the wrongness of their concepts and beliefs…I intuitively knew they were wrong, but now I had access to real scientific papers and people that were doing actual research on matters I was interested in.  I could finally know the subjects with some confidence, I could argue from knowledge, not from some vague feeling that their theology was crazy.

I am thinking that the humongous amount of information now available to atheists, agnostics and wavering Christians is slowly turning the tide of religion. The evidence, available to all with a computer and Internet connection, is now so overwhelming that the Bible is wrong.  We can, if we want, disprove just about anything thrown at us by religious fanatics. The thick fog of myth and false magic is slowly dissipating, the more knowledge we accumulate about the ball and chain of religion, the more we know of its falseness.

Real Truths About Religion and God

People have responded to many of my posts about religion by asking me where my proofs come from. I suspect these people are just religious believers who want to convert me, and others, who write about non-belief.

There is information on any subject you can imagine on the Internet (as I’m sure you all know), including original research papers on subjects relating to Biblical truth. The popular science-type magazines all have a web presence. And contrary to some Christians beliefs, they are not part of an evil cabal out to satanize all who view them.

I have a blogroll type list of websites I use to gather information from, on the right side of my site…if you’re reading this…you will see it as you scroll down. These are legit sites and they have reliable, mainstream, real world information. If Christians were to ever actually seriously research their Biblical beliefs they would soon see how much they have been misinformed, and how wrong the Bible is.

I am a realist however, and I just put the stuff out there with the hope that it will strike a chord with someone who is searching for the truth, and maybe cause them to go to real world proofs, instead of Hebrew myths, that are a waste of precious time and energy.

The famous site listed below has all the answers to flood myth lined up and they are checkable. Other parts of the site have some of the best general information about scientific origins of the earth, universe, humans, etc. They have been around since the early nineties. If you take time to explore it thoroughly you will find links to original research and real world explanations of our earth, and all who live on, and in it. The people who write there are experts-who happen to not have a Doctorate of Divinity.

http://www.talkorigins.org/faqs/faq-noahs-ark.html

If the Noachian Flood can be disproven (and it has been), then other parts of the Bible are also suspect of being wrong. And there are many other disproven Biblical assertions. Many Christians just don’t accept the truth. They cling very hard to a 2800 year old Hebrew myth, a view of a childish God, that people of the time didn’t have enough knowledge, or intellectual sense of the world, to question.

That the Christian faith has survived this long is not an indicator of its being true. To the contrary, it is an indicator of how easily the church adjusts its theology to conform as much as possible to currant social conventions (think slavery, polygamy, prostitution, kings killing on a whim, etc.). The church is known to burn papers (and people) that disagree with currant theological thought.

Think about the currant ‘state of the religion.’ Now, about 2008 years since the birth of Jesus (?) Roughly 1700 years since Christianity got the official ‘okey-dokey’ from secular rulers, and its still in a state of disrepair. There are maybe thousands of sects and they all differ. Muslims believe in the same God…so they say, and they are out to kill us…for heresy. Catholics believe Protestants practice heresy, and vice-versa. Mormons…who knows what they believe. There is either one that is right…or none is right. There is not two of them who are right…or three, or four…

Through manipulation of human thought and incorrect reasoning, physical threats, actual physical harm, and burning at the stake, or as little as social/societal ostracism, Christians have spread their evil plot to take over the world and control humans…every actions and thought…for more than two thousand years. Think about it for a while; think about the whole long history of Jews and Christians and what they have always wanted from us.

What has been, and is, their ultimate goal? It’s to take over control of all humanity and tell us how to think and act…they actually have that kind of control of a significant portion of the US population…think Bible belt and the Deep South. Churches are the social center and source of information, on how to conform…of many hundreds of thousands or millions of Evangelical Fundamentalist type people. I think those people are afraid that if they don’t belong to a church, they’ll automatically go out and start sinning in the worst possible way.

There is some evolving news about change in the Catholic position on humanity. They are actually starting to accept that humans have a looong history. Go to the site below and check it out. Notice in the upper right hand corner where the paper comes from. That old fossil…the Catholic Church…might have some life and intellect left after all. http://www.lifeissues.net/writers/zim/zim_251adamandeve.html

Below is a quote from the article mentioned above.

“The Catholic position on this is clear. St. Thomas says that “one should not try to defend the Christian faith with arguments that are so patently opposed to reason that the faith is made to look ridiculous.” It is simply nonsense to say that the world is only 6,000 years old (Catechesis, Creation and Evolution, Zenit News, Dec. 19, 2005).” My emphasis.

The Catholics are leading the pack in the changing of theological thought to match what is known to be true nowadays, although their present thought is a little dopey. I look forward to following this change. I also look forward to how the Evangelical Fundamentalists will continue to deny In-Your-Face truth.

Some suggested Google search terms that I have followed: Religion, God, Jesus, El, Elohim, Yahweh, Jehovah, biblical tribes, Scripture, Noah’s flood, Ur of the Chaldeans, city of Dan, city of Laish, sea people, Babylon, age of earth, Hebrews, Christian myth, Sumerians, Akkadians, Mesopotamia, Jericho, Chaldea or Chaldeans, Assyria, Indus valley civilization, ancient Egypt, Hammurabi, Gilgamesh, flood stories, flood myths, Myths, ancient native Americans, Solutrian, Clovis points, cave paintings, Adam and Eve, African civilization(s), Bronze age, iron age, ancient Briton, ancient Europe, Neanderthal, Hebron, Abraham, Lot, biology, Midrash, Torah, Jewish myths, ancient languages, archaeological dating, carbon dating, dating methods, Dendrocronology, stratigraphy, oil geology, Permian, Paleontology, DNA, rNA, genetics, human history, human pre-history, ancient India, ancient Iran, Stonehenge, henges, pyramids, stelas, Rosetta stone, cuneiform writing, hieroglyphs, Euphrates river, Tigris river, Geology, life sciences, and on and on….

The above terms represent maybe one twentieth of the search terms (sorry they aren’t alphabetized) I have used in following the paths of Christian religion. I have been doing this for about two years now, in my spare time. If the site is religious sect sponsored, they will often try to deny real world science by any means they can, including, but not limited to, lying and misdirection. There are a few exceptions that are starting to tackle the problem head on though, and the Catholic Church, as mentioned above, is one of them.

There is not one or two sites that can disprove all things religious untrue, though talkorigins.com comes close. I find you have to visit and really absorb many, many different viewpoints and disciplines and slowly let them simmer in your head. Good hunting.

Belief in God and Genesis

This is directed at Bible thumping, evangelical, Pentecostal, fundamentalist, believers in a personal God and Jesus.

People with enough sense to see through the flim-flam of modern day (and Old Time) Christianity can go about their business. 🙂

Answersingenesis puts the Noachian flood at 2304 BCE plus or minus 11 years.

Jehovah’s Witnesses place the flood at 2370 BCE. They don’t state an error factor, so I assume they’re pretty sure of the date.

Nowadays there is the story of the ‘Black Sea Deluge’ going around, and some are interpreting it as the reason for the many flood stories. It has been dated to about 5700-5900 BCE. This hypothesis (Black Sea) makes much more sense than the OT flood of Noah, as we know beyond a doubt that there was never a ‘world wide’ flood. They were all local.

One has only to pick dates between 2200 to 2500 BCE and then go to historical and archaeological data from around the world and do the proper investigating. There are no stories that can rightly be interpreted as “humongous world destroying floods” in Northern Europe, Central or Southern Europe, East or West Asia, India, Egypt, other Parts of Africa, Australia, North, Central, or South America….None. There is some geological evidence for small local floods, at different times, as one would expect when looking all over the earth.

Believers can talk till they’re blue in the face about many cultures having flood myths, so ours, about a worldwide flood, must be true….Wrong. The proven facts about worldwide population prove the Bible flood wrong beyond doubt. This also proves that the Tower of Babel story is wrong.

The Pyramids and Stonehenge were being built at the time of the Biblical Flood. We know, without any doubt at all, that most of the earth was populated between 2200-2500 BCE. The only way this can be denied is by using intentional stupidity as your criterion for looking at history. Every continent on earth was heavily populated at the Biblical Flood time. Hell, Mexico was experimenting with corn genetics 2000 years earlier than the ‘Flood.’

The Tower of Babel was 110 to 120 years after the flood, according to the Bible.

Do you think all these people living all over the earth were wiped out by a universal flood? Do you think you could possibly prove this? Of course not. But, it can be, and has been proven that it didn’t happen.

Do you think that all those tens of millions of people living all over the earth were talking the same language? Maybe grunting to each other? Of course not. They were using their own languages…the ones their mothers and fathers taught them…the ones people in their own countries were using for hundreds or thousands of years

The Genesis chapter is totally folklore/myth/old campfire stories. Modern day facts prove this beyond doubt. People who still believe this crap bunch of myths really need to get some education. Your church leaders…are leading you around by the nose, and you’re letting them.

The writers of biblical times were not even aware that there was a whole world beyond their limited, religiously driven sight. They were so taken up by trying to establish a reason for their being, that they had no vision of reality. They had no curiosity beyond their religion. They were probably the dullest, most anal people living on earth.

Can you imagine living your whole life in anticipation of something that never comes…Oh I forgot….you are. Can you imagine not quite fitting in with the real world because you don’t know (or worse, you deny) the facts of life? Of course you fit in with your fellow believers, but not really anywhere else.

I just can’t imagine living with your constant paranoia of thinking the Devil/Satan is looking to trip you up at any minute. Your constant dread of the original sin hanging over your head. Why do people do this to themselves?
I know the superficial answer, what’s the real one I wonder?
